"A failure is not a mistake; it may simply be the best one can do under the circumstances.
The real mistake is to stop trying."

~ BF Skinner

What to Expect

The therapeutic relationship between client and therapist is one of the most important factors in therapeutic success.  So, finding a therapist you trust and connect with is essential.

Before we schedule our first appointment it is important to ensure that we are well matched.  It is helpful for you to be prepared to discuss what brings you to therapy now, your insurance provider, and the days and times you are available.

Once we decide on a time to meet, I will ask for your first and last name and contact information.  I use an electronic health record and will send all forms via client portal and email to be filled out prior to our initial session.   All of our sessions will be via telehealth.  You will receive instructions for logging into our meetings and a link to the telehealth session the day of our session.  These sessions will be very similar to meeting in person except they will be online.
The first appointment, we will make introductions, review your history and the completed paperwork, discuss the problem, identify goals and come up with a plan for treatment. This is an opportunity to get to know one another and begin a partnership to meet your goals and ultimately help you live a value congruent life.

Follow up sessions will continue to build the relationship and work toward your goals. This might include skill building, processing difficult memories, exploring thoughts, emotions, and sensations, journal writing, reading books, reviewing homework, and much more.

Each session is individualized and tailored to your specific needs. I am flexible and believe you are the most important part of your healing journey. You hold the keys to finding meaning and living with purpose. Like many of life’s meaningful ventures, therapy can be a difficult process. Sometimes people notice their symptoms get worse before they improve. This can be discouraging but if you hang in there and work hard you will reap the benefits of this worthwhile challenge. With time, practice and dedication you will begin to notice life enhancing changes.
